Kaipara Karrier VIII is the third barge in the Mt Rex Shipping fleet, the second built by Culham Engineering. Design started in early 2019 and the first steel order was made in December 2022. The barge weighs 880 tonnes and is powered by 2 x 750Hp Cummins Engines. Once operational it will be extracting sand on the Kaipara Harbour for the Auckland construction industry.
